Telefonica Germany has signed a partnership agreement with Skylo Technologies, a provider of satellite-based telecommunications for the Internet of Things (IoT), to offer satellite-based Narrow Band (NB) IoT connectivity services in the first quarter of 2024 in North America and Europe. The companies will expand the offering in a second step to other continents. Telefonica plans to sign further partnerships with IoT satellite operators this year.
Under the partnership with Skylo Technologies, Telefonica Germany will provide integrated SIMs (iSIMs) for radio modules. Radio modules for 5G communication will gradually replace terminals to communicate with satellites, supporting the transition between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
